About Hillel

Since it became a formal organization in 2000, Hillel at Truman has organized various events and activities, depending on the needs and interests of the students involved.

~Since 2001, Hillel has held annual Chanukah parties, occasionally featuring events for the entire university community.
~Since 2001, Hillel has organized a week-long Yom Hashoah commemoration, including movies, speakers, and memorial services on campus.
~Since 2003, Hillel has sponsored for the university community an annual one night "Hebrew-athon," taught by a Rabbi from St. Louis, which in 2006 had to turn down many students who wished to attend.
~In the 2006-2007 academic year, Hillel has sponsored events of Israeli folk dancing nights.
~From fall 2002 through spring 2006, Hillel students held weekly kiddush and havdallah services on campus.
~In November 2005, Hillel participated in Shabbat Across America, including a community Shabbat dinner and services led by a rabbinical student from New York.
~In October 2004, Hillel sponsored a week of events on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including movies and a panel discussion/debate.
~In Spring 2004, Hillel students held a fund-raising pizza dinner that was extremely successful and drew large numbers of students.
~In February 2004, a delegation of Hillel students from Truman attended the AIPAC Midwest Israel Summit in Chicago.
~In the 2002-2003 academic year, Hillel held a monthly Jewish film and discussion series that drew many students.
~After 9/11, Hillel students held a Yizkor service for the victims of the attacks of the World Trade Towers, and in 2006 held an anniversary memorial service.
